Large and luxurious, the full-sized, five-door MPV Mercedes-Benz R-Class is the automobile manufacturer's "Sports Tourer." First launched in 2005, the R-Class has been discontinued since 2012, although production for China continued until 2017. The R-Class is massive, with 2407 liters of cargo space and seating seven across its three rows. Its final edition, the 2012 model year, comes in a Blue Efficiency trim that uses a 3.5L V6 six-cylinder BlueDIRECT direct-injection engine capable of 302 hp and arrives mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission and in fulltime 4WD. Fuel efficiency is measured at 8.5 km/l. This is an upgrade from the 2010 R-Class 4Matic which uses a 3.5L V6 six-cylinder DOHC engine that makes 268 hp and achieves a fuel efficiency of 7.7 km/l.
Standard safety features on the 2012 R-Class include eight airbags, Pre-Safe safety system, front active headrests, and a blind-spot system. In the standard features department, the R-Class also leaves little to be wanting, with an array of equipment including a rearview camera, Mercedes-Benz's COMAND infotainment and vehicle control system, an eight-speaker CD audio system, leatherette seats, and power sunroof.
