First launched in late 2009, the Volkswagen Amarok was a pickup truck with a double cab and four-door body that offered ample space for five grown adults and set new standards in terms of fuel economy and emissions. To cater to the more 'storage-oriented' consumer, it was later offered in single cab two-door body versions to allow for a longer truck bed. Across all generations, the design of the Amarok places an emphasis on horizontal lines. With its curvatures on its side panels and engine hood, the rugged pickup truck Amarok looks the part.
The Amarok was first released with two inline four-cylinder turbo-diesel direct injection engines: one 2.0L unit with an output of 160 hp and fuel consumption of 13.2 km/l, and another that produces 120 hp and achieves 13.3 km/l. More recent versions of the Amarok comes with one of three TDI engines, including a 3.0L V6 capable of 221 hp. Powerful engines mean greater towing ability - the Amarok hauls with ease of 2.8 metric tons of trailer load. Standard safety features on the Amarok include an electronic stabilization program and an "off-road mode" that optimizes the existing safety systems for challenging terrain.
