The crossover C-HR is the second car (the fourth-generation Prius being the first) invested in by Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), a program aimed at bringing about a structural revolution in car manufacturing to make even better vehicles. The unique exterior of the C-HR aims to faithfully reproduce designer Akio Toyoda's image of a "Sensual Speed Cross" through the contrast of a diamond motif and a refined and sculpted body with large overhanging wheel flares. In the maiden 2016 lineup are the G and S models with a highly efficient and lightweight 1.8L inline four-cylinder DOHC hybrid system that makes 97 hp, and the fulltime 4WD G-T and S-T models powered by a 1.2L inline four-cylinder DOHC intercooler turbo engine for 114 hp. Both engines are mated to a CVT. Fuel efficiency is estimated at 15.4 km/l for the G-T and S-T, and 30.2 km/l for the hybrid engine C-HRs.
The 2016 C-HR receives an eight-inch audio touchscreen display featuring a HMI (Human Machine Interface) with Toyota's Multimedia ’16 navigation platform and enhanced connected services, while Toyota's Safety Sense P crash avoidance package that comes as standard across all models adds an extra layer of safety.
