The Toyota Highlander, or the Kluger in Japan, shares design and engineering DNA with the pioneer of the luxury SUV genre, the well-known Harrier. But while the Harrier combines elegance, comfort, and functionality of a passenger vehicle, the Highlander boasts a sports utility like performance that caters more to the active, outdoor-loving driver.
The Highlander comes with either a 3L V6 DOHC or 2.4L 4 DOHC engine unit. Paired with Toyota's VVT-i technology, the 3L produces a horsepower of 220ps/5800 rpm and torque of 31.0kgm/4400 rpm, while the 2.4L produces 160ps/5600 rpm and 22.5kgm/4000 rpm. The transmission of the Highlander is a floor-type 4AT with lock-up mechanism. The FF and viscous coupling-type full time 4WD engine and transmission layouts are paired with front/L shape lower arm distribution Macpherson Strut, and rear/dual link type Macpherson Strut. Depending on the configuration, the Highlander achieves fuel efficiency from 9.3 km/l, up to 11.0 km/l. Sports-Steer shiftmatic that creates the sensation of manual-like operation, as well as sports suspension come available in the S package, while 16 inch aluminum wheels come together with the G package. For safety features, the Highlander is equipped with dual airbags, brake assist, ABS with EBD, and seat belts with pretensioner and force limiter. Venture into the great outdoors in the Kluger available here at BE FORWARD!
