The best-selling Toyota Corolla was produced in a hatchback body for more than 30 years until 2008. The final generation of the Corolla hatchback (2003 to 2008) was an affordable and versatile compact car, coming as either a 3- or 5-door model. For the 5-door model, the trunk could be expanded from 309 liters to 1,190 liters thanks to 60/40 split-folding rear bench seats. In typical Toyota fashion, the Corolla hatchback was well-equipped, with good-quality fabric upholstery and an HVAC unit with optional automatic climate control. Powering the Corolla hatchback were a number of diesel and gasoline engines, including 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, and 1.8 L gasolines, and 1.4 and 2.0 L turbo diesels.

Yaris

The Yaris, sold as the Vitz in Japan up till 2020, is Toyota's supermini hatchback that offers exceptional fuel efficiency and maneuverability. It's a vehicle designed specifically for city traffic and thus boasts compact dimensions, but it still comes with enough room for three passengers at the rear and a decent-sized trunk with a rear bench that could be folded down to make more cargo space. The 2020 Yaris comes with a clean yet sporty exterior featuring a massive front bumper, side scoops, and a roof spoiler. Engines for the 2020 Yaris were 1.0 and 1.5 L inline three-cylinder gasolines, and a 1.5 L inline three-cylinder petrol hybrid. 4WD models were also available.

Auris

The Auris is the replacement for the Corolla hatchback, and shares the same platforms as the E150 and E180 Corolla. It came in either a 3- or 5-body, with earlier versions sporting a more fun exterior, while newer models (2018 onwards) featured a sportier and sleeker look, helped in no small part by a slimmer front end and rear blade-style LED tail lights. The 360-liter trunk could be expanded to 1200 litres. Engines for the third generation Auris from 2018 included 1.2–2.0 L petrols, 1.6–2.0 L flex fuels, and 1.8 and 2.0 L petrol hybrids.

Aygo

Toyota's Aygo is a fun 3- or 5-door city car produced jointly with small car experts Peugeot. One of its highlights is its outstanding reliability—in 2010, the German Automobile Club placed it at the top of its category for low breakdown rates. The second generation, produced between 2014 and 2022, comes with a youthful design with a good amount of customisability and features more than 12 trims that can bring along features like a JBL stereo system and 15-inch black alloy wheels. It was powered by a 1.0 L inline three-cylinder petrol engine.
