Both a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission are available, and it comes standard with a manually operated fabric roof. Inside, the MX-5 comes with the Mazda Connect infotainment system with a whole range of features, including smartphone integration and navigation.

MX-5 RF

Released in 2016, the MX-5 RF, or Retractable Fastback, is the MX-5 with fastback styling for a more aggressive, coupe-like appearance and a retractable hardtop. The hardtop boasts elegant lines sculpted according to Mazda's Kodo design principles and can be retracted in just 13 seconds without sacrificing trunk space. The RF's interior is nearly identical to that of the soft-top MX-5, offering the same great driving position and features. On newer models (from 2019 on), higher trim levels for both the RF and the soft-top include an updated full-color digital display in the gauge cluster. In addition to the standard colors of the MX-5 ND, the RF was also introduced with an exclusive Machine Gray Mica paint color.
