First released in 1991, the Lexus GS is a smooth, sporty, and refined luxury 4-door sedan. The earliest generations of GSs boasted six-cylinder 3.5L and 4.2L engines alongside automatic transmission - this exhilarating power beneath the hood is more than matched by a sophisticated and clean-cut exterior. A favorite of vehicle enthusiasts, the series has won multiple awards including "Best Sedan" of Germany in 1997. It was also named "Most Appealing Midsize Luxury Car" by J.D. Power and Associates in 2001.
The latest generation of Lexus GS has done away with the 4.2L and added a 2.0L 242 hp inline four-cylinder turbo alongside the 3.5L 314 hp V6 cylinder unit. Additionally, the Lexus GS also comes in hybrid versions powered by either a 2.5L 176 hp inline four-cylinder engine or a 3.5L 291 hp V6 six-cylinder engine with electric motor. The engines of the regular gasoline models are mated to either a six or eight-speed automatic transmission, while those of the hybrid models are mated to a CVT. FR is the standard layout, although full-time 4WD GSs are also available. Fuel efficiency starts at 9.9km/l for the gasoline, while the hybrids are able to achieve 23.2 km/l.
