Origin
The X1 was introduced in 2009 as the smallest member of BMW's "Sports Activity Vehicle" family. First Generation (E84; 2009–2015)
The first-generation X1 E84 was launched in 2009 and was based on the E90 3 Series platform. It had classic BMW proportions, such as a long hood, short overhangs, and rear-wheel-drive dynamics. Third Generation (U11/U12; 2022–present)
The current X1 builds on all of the previous generation's strengths, with a larger footprint, sharper styling, and even more advanced tech. It is offered with mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engines in many markets, alongside the all-electric iX1 for zero-emissions driving. A significant change on the inside of the third-generation X1 is the curved display housing the digital instrument cluster and central touchscreen, running BMW's latest iDrive 8 software. Across all generations, the X1 has come powered by engines that combine efficiency with good performance to make daily driving a breeze.
