Best Convertibles from BMW

Z4

The Z4 is BMW's iconic luxury roadster that features classic roadster proportions with its long hood and low and wide stance. Compared to other roadsters on the market, the Z4 was more premium, boasting powerful engines like a 3.0L turbocharged unit capable of up to 340 hp for model years from 2009 to 2018. A coupe version was also available from 2006 to 2013. For its 2018 model year onwards, the Z4 came with Near Field Communication technology that turns the smartphone into a key in case you forget to bring yours out.

4-Series Convertible

The 4-Series was first introduced as the coupe version of the 3-Series, and it came as a convertible with a retractable hard-top. It comfortably seats up to four adults with its large wheelbase. For the 2021 model year onwards, the decision to make the 4-Series a hard-top-only convertible was reversed, with the 4-Series switching to a soft top. This change gave it 80 L more trunk room than its predecessor. The 4-Series also comes in mild hybrid gasoline and diesel engines in addition to the standard gasoline and diesel versions.

M4

The coupe version of the successful touring motorsport M3, the M4, is a performance beast. For its 2014 - 2020 model years, a prominent open grille and air vents on the sides of the bumper gave it an aggressive exterior. This was matched, maybe even surpassed, by what was under the hood - a 3.0L straight-six capable of 431 hp. From 2021 onwards, an all-wheel drive system became available.

8-Series Convertible

BMW's 8-Series was initially released in 1990, but it was only in 2018, with the resurrection of the 8-Series, that the convertible version was introduced. The 8-Series convertible featured top-of-the-line materials and technologies, including an infotainment system with a 10.3-inch touchscreen (the best on the market at the time), standard voice control, and Apple CarPlay. In addition to the 3.0L with two sequential turbos that produce 320 hp, there is a 4.4L twin turbo V8 eight-cylinder capable of 530 hp powering the M850i xDrive version.

2-Series Convertible

As the only premium compact convertible on the market, the 2-Series convertible is in a class of its own. The soft top of the 2-Series consists of seven layers of different materials that add soundproofing and thermal insulation. The 2017 model came with standard flat-bottom styled bi-LED headlights. Eight engines ranging from 136 hp to 340 hp were available. Depending on the model, these came with an eight-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic, with rear- or all-wheel-drive.
