The Volkswagen Bora is the successor to the classy Vento, bridging the gap between the Passat and the Golf as a reliable, compact, yet premium 4-door sedan. At first glance, the Bora is both simple yet stylish, designed in European fashion with smooth, flowing lines. Under the hood, the 1700 wide Bora is powered by a 2.8L V6, 2.3L V5, or a 2L inline 4 engine, outputting horsepower of 204hp, 170hp, and 116hp respectively. The 2.8L comes in 6 gear MT with full time 4WD, the 2.3L in Tiptronic 5AT FF, and the base model 2L in 4AT FF. Additionally, the sporty 2.8L version of the Bora befittingly boasts a sports suspension and Recaro electronically controlled leather sports seats. The FF models are configured with a Macpherson Strut at the front, and torsion beam trailing arm suspension at the rear, while the manual 4WD 2.8L model is fitted with a trailing arm multi-ring suspension.
The Bora overflows with safety features across all models such as dual and side airbags (models released from March 2003 onwards also included front and rear curtain airbags), ABS, and seat belts with force limiter and tensioner, and is completed with an electronic differential system (EDS), electronic brake distribution (EBD), and anti-theft immobilizer security system.
